What is Simply Dezign?

Simply Dezign is transforming landscape design with a convenient, fully online process that empowers homeowners to reimagine their outdoor spaces. Our seamless approach covers everything from plant selection and hardscaping to functional additions like outdoor kitchens, pergolas, and play areas, as well as home exterior updates including paint, siding, windows, doors, and roofing.

With Simply Dezign, a skilled team of designers and horticulturists crafts your outdoor design using your photos and videos, combined with advanced technology, data, and plant science—no site visits required. 

What’s included in a design plan with Simply Dezign?

Simply Dezign can create designs for just about anything you envision for your outdoor space. While this list isn’t exhaustive, if you don’t see something here that you’d like, don’t hesitate to reach out—we can likely design it for you.

What is not included in Simply Dezign’s designs?

It’s just as important to explain what we don’t do as it is to highlight what we do. Our designs serve as the "master plan" for your outdoor renovation, outlining recommended materials, layouts, and everything else a landscaping contractor will need to provide a bid and begin work. However, the cost of materials and installation is not included in our design packages. That cost will be determined by the contractors who bid on your project once the design is complete.

We do offer irrigation plans as part of our designs, drainage solutions are not included in our designs, but your local contractors can take care of those needs.

While our designers are familiar with basic codes, such as setback rules, easements, and fence heights (which generally don’t vary much), any unique city-specific codes should be shared with us during the onboarding process, as we won’t independently gather this information for your design. Additionally, having a site survey, such as a tree and topographical survey with elevations, will be ideal for creating the most accurate design.

For more complex, custom, or non-pre-fabricated elements, such as swimming pools, ADUs, second-story decks, or gas and electrical lines, you may need to consult with a structural engineer or architect during the build phase, as our designs do not include construction-level details for these types of features.

How can you determine the best plants for my unique property?

We’ve developed a comprehensive database of plants, trees, and groundcovers tailored to planting zones, sun and shade conditions, water needs, styles, and unique features like being “deer-resistant,” “pet-safe,” or offering “year-round blooms.”

After purchasing a package, you’ll take a plant preferences quiz during onboarding. We also leverage satellite imagery, along with detailed photos and videos of your property, to analyze sun and shade patterns throughout the day. To ensure accuracy, a horticulturist reviews and finalizes the plant palette for your design.

Where does Simply Dezign offer design services?

Simply Dezign provides design services in every state across the U.S.! Our team includes experts in all climates and styles, ready to create a sustainable yard tailored to your unique space.

How does the Simply Dezign process work?

After purchasing a Simply Dezign package, you’ll be directed to our online client intake, where you’ll share photos and videos, inspiration images, answer a few questions about your preferences, how you want to use your outdoor space, and complete a style quiz!

Once we receive your pre-design materials, if your package includes photorealistic 3D renders, we’ll begin by creating a model of your home and property. This model will serve as the base for your design, and you'll receive it about a week after submission.

Three to four weeks after receiving your House Model (or after submitting your materials if your package doesn’t include 3D renders), we’ll send you the first draft of your design renders. Using renders throughout the process allows you to visualize your future outdoor space and provide detailed feedback easily. This part of the journey is interactive and collaborative. We’ll address your questions and feedback, making revisions as needed to perfect your final design.

At the end of the process, you’ll receive your final design, which includes photorealistic 3D or illustrative 2D renders, a complete plant, material, and furniture list, and other deliverables based on your chosen package.

Next, our Build Support team will help you bring your new outdoor space to life. We’ll connect you with a vetted contractor in your area to install your design. If we don’t already have a trusted pro nearby, we’ll research, vet, and find a contractor we believe will be the best fit for your project.

How does the design revision process work?

Each design package includes at least one round of detailed revisions, with our Premium package offering two rounds. Additional revisions are available for $300. Most of our clients are thrilled with their design after the standard revision process, and many work directly with their contractor on final design choices. Since it's common to finalize design details on-site, we’re happy to make revisions to any CAD plans included in your design at no extra charge during the build process. These are referred to as "red lines" in the construction world.

Are Simply Dezign designs typically installed exactly as planned?

It’s entirely up to you! However, it’s rare for any design—whether landscape, interior, or whole home—to be implemented exactly as planned. We recommend viewing your Simply Dezign conceptual designs as a communication tool to share your vision with a licensed contractor. Your final designs will include CAD plans or a 2D render with dimensions, planting layouts, specific plant names, and basic material callouts. That said, some final design adjustments will naturally be made on-site with the guidance of your contractor.

I have a set budget—how do you ensure my design stays within it?

At the start of the Simply Dezign design process, you'll complete our proprietary onboarding exercise, which helps you understand the ideal configuration of hardscape, softscape, and exterior elements for your outdoor space, along with their associated costs. Using this information, you'll share your total budget with your design team. For clients planning to phase their build, as many do, this budget reflects the cost for all phases.

Your designer will craft your design with your budget in mind. However, factors like material choices and plant sizes can help adjust costs as needed. We believe that making budget a central part of the process is key to delivering a design you can bring to life.
